POLLEN DIARIES: PART 16

I got through May with barely a sneeze. Today’s the First of June, so naturally the grass has gone bananas.

I felt it in my eyes first - that dry itchy tiredness that isn’t really tiredness. Rubbing them makes it worse, like seeing spots for a while. Then blinking gets tears in your eyes and the world goes misty.

The sky is wide and blue today. White wispy clouds hung over the allotments as I walked to the bus. I like the allotments on days like these - everyone’s there digging and weeding and chatting, in their sunhats. They all say hello as though they know me, and I say hello back, through my sneezes.

I’m alright. I took some non-drowsy antihistamines. I don’t much like the thought that this is just beginning of the season though. I have a feeling that the grass has only just got going.
