The Samsung WW90TA046AX has landed. Well, two blokes backed a delivery van towards my front door, huffed and puffed up the stairs for several minutes, and then shuffled it into place.
There it is then, the Fancy Samsung washing machine. I’m not brave enough to use it without Sammy. I mean, I could, technically, but it’s not a great drying day today, and also, she told me not to. I guess if I accidentally caused a flood, or shrank all the towels down to handkerchief size, she might at absolute best acquire a few ‘Told You So’ points, and at worst, well, I don’t want to think about it. Plus, there’d be nothing to mop up the flood with.
The guy switched it on. The Fancy Samsung started singing as though it were in Close Encounters. Lights flashed into action around the central wheel, and bright blue numbers popped up on the display. He gave a melodious little chuckle.
“There you go,” he said proudly, patting the Samsung. Then he ran through a couple of cycles and told me how to use it.
“So basically you can pick any of these programs and then er, choose, make it more specific using um…”
“You can fine-tune,” I prompted.
“That’s it!” he clicked, “You can fine-tune what you want.”
Indeed, I thought. We switched off the machine and it fell back into grey silence.
And with that they were gone, off to their next delivery. I smiled at the new addition to the kitchen. And to think, I once felt like this about Lego.
