“Feels like minus one!” she said, tapping the Met Office weather app. “See? No wonder it’s so cold!”
The frosty roofs were a bit of a giveaway too. Blearily, I thought it might have snowed overnight, but of course it was just thick, white frost icing the slate tiles of our neighbours’ houses.
We are in a yellow weather warning for snow though. Apparently later today, there’s a chance. For us soft warm southerners, that usually means a flurry and a dusting, rather than the blanket that the north gets.
“Minus one!” she said again. I gloomily boosted the central heating.
